Chemical Formula: H2O2

Properties:
Hydrogen peroxide is a colorless liquid. It is pale blue in colour in its pure form and slightly more viscous than water. It decomposes slowly when exposed to light, and rapidly in the presence of organic or reactive compounds. It is typically stored with a stabilizer in a weakly acidic solution in a dark bottle to block light. Hydrogen peroxide is found in biological systems including the human body.

Usage:
It is used as an oxidizer, bleaching agent, and antiseptic. It is used in cleaning, disinfectant in water treatment to remove organic impurities, hair dyes, bleaches, toothpaste, mouthwashes, bathroom cleaners, acne treatment, first aid and laundry stain removers. Hydrogen peroxide is also used in horticulture and fishkeeping.


Production: Methane (natural gas) is used to provide a source of hydrogen. Later it is then reacted in a catalytic process with oxygen under high heat.

Safety Measures to be considered:
Exposure to Hydrogen Peroxide can cause damage to eyes and respiratory system. It can cause skin burns. It may cause a build-up of fluid in the lungs, a medical emergency. Hydrogen Peroxide can cause headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. It can destroy healthy cells and therefore affect wound healing.
